FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
As West Virginia University at Parkersburg continues to experience growth in its student enrollment, its need for additional part-time faculty is increasing as well.
The college will host two open houses to provide area residents with an opportunity to learn about how they might become involved with WVU Parkersburg and its Jackson County Center by serving as part-time faculty.
The Parkersburg campus will hold an adjunct faculty open house from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29. JCC will host a similar session from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, in Ripley.
"We have a wonderful cadre of professionals who bring real-world experiences to the classroom as adjunct faculty," Rhonda Richards, executive dean of academic affairs, noted.
"The college recognizes the need to further expand our adjunct faculty pool," she added. "So we are seeking to attract qualified applicants interested in teaching on the college level."
The open houses will provide the opportunity for area residents to discuss their interests and credentials with representatives from the college’s academic divisions, noted Peggy Jameson, director of the college’s Human Resources.
“Information will be provided regarding the variety of class assignments available, ranging in length from a full semester, to a shorter-term (such as one night or one week sessions) to on-line, weekends or high school Early Admission classes,” she noted.
Adjunct teaching opportunities available at WVU Parkersburg include the areas of Business/Economics (business law, management, marketing, accounting, finance, etc.); Corporate and Community Education (non-credit program opportunities); Education (teacher education, early childhood development); Health Sciences (nursing, surgical technology, paramedic); Humanities (art, theatre, reading, English, foreign languages, music, speech, journalism); Natural Sciences/Mathematics (mathematics/all levels, biology, chemistry, astronomy, geology, physics); Social Sciences (sociology, psychology, criminal justice, religion, forensic pathology), and Technology (automotive technology, computer science/information technology, industrial maintenance, engineering technology, welding).
