FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Corporate and Community Education division of West Virginia University at Parkersburg is offering two pre-employment programs this summer designed to provide area residents with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue retailing and bank teller positions.

The training will give participants an edge over non-experienced and non-trained applicants seeking positions in retailing and banking.  Each program consists of 30 hours of non-credit training.

The retailing program will meet from 9 a.m. until noon, Monday-Friday, June 19 through June 30.

Purpose of the retailing training is to provide participants with knowledge of various aspects of the retail business for entering retail employment.  Topics will include learning the products, sales techniques, developing a productive customer relationship, and interpersonal communication, multi-tasking, developing repeat business, dealing with difficult customers, and sexual harassment/diversity.

The bank teller training will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Mondays and 3 to 6 p.m., Thursdays, June 19-July 24.

The program will include such topics as the role of the teller, handling checks, processing transactions, handling and balancing cash, bank services and security, and providing quality customer service.

Each program is $175 and includes a textbook.  Prior registration is required and may be accomplished by contacting Martha Leeson in the CCE office, 424-8277.
