MEDIA ADVISORYRibbon-Cutting Ceremony
WVU Parkersburg Classroom Tower
10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006West Virginia University at Parkersburg will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday (Nov. 29) for the re-opening of its three-story classroom tower.
The 10 a.m. ceremony will be held at the front entrance of the tower.
Representatives from West Virginia University, the WV Higher Education Policy Commission, WVU Parkersburg, the college’s Board of Advisors, local/county officials and the project’s construction company Jendoco will be among those participating in the ceremony. A short program and reception will follow in the college’s new community room with tours available of the tower.
The $3.1 million campus enhancement project involved stabilizing the 1968-built classroom tower which had experienced some settling of its foundation. Begun last November, the tower project has created a new focal point for the campus with a sleek modern look featuring a stained glass curtain wall as well as new office, lab and meeting spaces.
Funding for the classroom tower project was derived from the WV Higher Education Policy Commission's $161.47 million bond issue for higher education.
