FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In a salute to the dedication of the country's armed services, West Virginia University at Parkersburg's Student Government Association is sponsoring "Support Our Troops Week" beginning Monday (Sept. 19).
On Monday (Sept. 19), a dedication ceremony of the college's new flag platform will be held at noon with the U.S. Army Color Guard. It will also be "Yellow Ribbon Day," and Student Government representatives will be selling yellow ribbons. Students are encouraged to wear yellow t-shirts.
A Tuesday (Sept. 20) project will be tie-dyeing red, white and blue t-shirts. Students can provide their own or purchase a shirt to be tie dyed. This will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the cafeteria.
On Wednesday (Sept. 21), there will be a free barbecue for students from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the campus backyard behind the cafeteria. Live music will be highlighted from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All branches of the U.S. military will be featured with their equipment, including a humvee, boat and a Blackhawk helicopter. A hand-to-hand combat demonstration is planned. The Parkersburg High School drill team will be on campus from noon to 2 p.m. All of Wednesday's activities are open to the public.
Thursday (Sept. 22) will be "Red, White and Blue" Day and students are encouraged to wear their patriotic t-shirts.
