FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg's Theatre Department presents the Canadian comedy “The Melville Boys” Friday-Sunday, Dec. 9-11 in the College Theatre.

Curtain time is 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday (Dec. 9-10) with a 2 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 11) matinee.  Performances are in the college theatre.

The Melville brothers, Lee, portrayed by Kaleb G. Smith, and Owen, played by Allen Winthrow, arrive at their uncle’s lakeside cabin for a weekend of relaxation.  Their plans are foiled, however, by the arrival of two sisters, Mary and Loretta. The sisters, played by Brandi Wolfe and Katie Rowley, become the catalyst for a tenderly funny and unsentimental look at four lives in transition.   The play is under the direction of theatre instructor Carson Soelberg.

"The Melville Boys" is written by playwright Norm Foster, known as “Canada’s Most-Produced Playwright.”  Born in Newmarket, Ontario, but raised in Toronto, he attended West Hill Collegiate Institute College in Thunder Bay.  After 25 years in radio, Foster was introduced to the world of theatre in 1980.   His works include “Looking,” “Sitting Pretty” with Steve Thomas, and “Outlaw.”

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for WVU-P students.  They are available in the college business office and will be sold at the door.
