Grantwriting Basics workshop planned at WVU Parkersburg.

CONTACT:  Becky Ash, program assistant, Business, Industry and Development Services, 304-424-8275.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Grantwriting Basics workshop, designed as an introduction for the new grantwriter and a refresher for those who are skill-polishing, will be held Friday, February 18, at the West Virginia University at Parkersburg BIDS Building from 9 a.m. to noon.

An afternoon class, Preparing a Grant Application, will go into depth and work through an actual narrative and budget for a sample grant project.  That class takes place from 1-4 p.m.

Workshop presenter will be Lisa Starcher Collins, president of Charity Match and former chief executive officer of ARTSBRIDGE, Inc.  Ann Frost, assistant director for the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund, will assist in the afternoon class and present tips from a funder’s perspective.

Participants will learn from a seasoned grantwriter who works in the field every day, and gain access to her assistance by follow-up e-mail for a month following the class. Topics to be covered include:  research and identification of appropriate sources; preparing the required documentation for your organization to be grant-ready; developing relationships with potential funders; understanding the terminology and completing the paperwork; elements of a narrative; creating a clear budget, and tracking and evaluation methods.

Collins has been a non-profit manager for 18 years. She has written millions of dollars in successful grant proposals, including state, federal, private and corporate foundations. She is now an independent contractor/consultant, and spends 50% of her work time as a grantwriter.

Fee for the class is $55 per class for the first person from an organization, $45 for each additional person registered. Those who register for both morning and afternoon classes will receive the $10 discount as well.  A $6 box lunch is available to be ordered with registration for those who are attending both classes.

Class space is limited.  Registration deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 15.   Registration information is available by contacting Becky Ash, program assistant at the college, 424-8275.
