FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Is English a second language for you? Do you need help in improving your English?

West Virginia University at Parkersburg will offer a course this spring for international students or foreign residents of all ages in the Parkersburg and the surrounding areas.

ENGL 039 - Special Problems in English as a Second Language will meet on Thursdays from 7:00 to 9:45 p.m., beginning January 12, 2006, in Room 2317. The class will be taught by Randy A. Oldaker, associate professor of German, Japanese and English, and coordinator of the Foreign Language Department. There is no textbook for the course.  Oldaker will tailor-make course materials, focusing on particular issues that individual students may have with vocabulary, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing, listening or culture.

The course is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to become more fluent in English if it is not their native language.  Those enrolling should have the equivalent of a high school diploma.  Additional information regarding the course may be obtained from Oldaker at the college, 424-8246.  Registration assistance is available from the college's Records Office.
