FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg will host free emergency response training for local community preparedness on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 12-13).

The sessions will be held  from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday in Room 0133 at WVU Parkersburg.  The free training is sponsored by the college's Criminal Justice Organization.

The Community Emergency Response Team training concept promotes a partnering effort between emergency services and area residents served by those services.  Part of a Federal Emergency Management Agency initiative, the two-day training is designed to prepare CERT members to assist others in the event of a disaster by applying basic response and organizational skills.

The training will cover disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster psychology, and terrorism and CERT.  Participants will receive an equipment pack and training materials.

No advance registration is necessary to participate in the training.  Additional information is available by contacting Nelson Ortiz, CJO faculty adviser and instructor of criminal justice, 424-8253.
