FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The West Virginia University at Parkersburg division which provides customized training to area business and industry is refocusing its vision and changing its name.

The Business, Industry and Development Services division is now Corporate and Community Education.  It marks more than a name change, college officials note.

"This is a major expansion in our focus," said David Bell, division dean.  "What we're doing is expanding how we do business for our existing and potential customers.  We're committed to providing world-class learning experiences through high-quality, open-enrollment and custom programs."

The Center for Corporate and Community Education will continue to deliver workshops, seminars, consulting, on-site customized training and continuing and professional education programs.  It will offer corporate education solutions to meet the needs of working professionals.

"We will continue to work closely with companies to ensure that customized training programs are aligned with organizational objectives to provide employees with professional training," noted Bell.

But the division is also focusing on more community-based programming.

"We're really putting 'community' at the forefront of our institutional commitment to serve the Mid-Ohio Valley," explained WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage.

The Center will increase its credit and non-credit offerings to reflect personal interests of area residents.  These may include on-campus summer classes for youngsters, computer class workshops for older adults, conversational language classes and other personal development offerings.  Input from the community is welcomed and encouraged.

The Center will continue to deliver the statewide REALTOR Institute program which provides classes designed to satisfy the West Virginia real estate licensing law requirements.  Classes are offered throughout the state.  The Center also offers pre-licensure training for prospective real estate sales associate ins Ohio and West Virginia.

In addition, the Center has added Fast Track training programs, designed to provide 90-day convenient training that represents the job areas currently in demand in West Virginia.  Presently being offered are Fast Track certificates in Health Insurance Customer Service, Medical Office Assistant, Real Estate and Retail.

Additional information about current and future Center offerings is available by contacting the Center at 424-8275.
