FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A multi-media presentation regarding violence against women will be presented at 7 p.m., Tuesday (Oct. 19) at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
Educational as well as entertaining, "That Ain't No Way to Treat A Lady," will be performed by Nancy Hulse, who presents a number of touring, live multimedia productions she has developed dealing with issues of violence against women.
The program is free and open to the public and will be held in the college's multi-purpose room. The goal of the presentation is to heighten the viewer’s awareness of the pervasiveness of violence against women in American culture. The multi-media presentation is co-sponsored by WVU Parkersburg's Social Justice Committee and the SAFE (Silence Affects Families Everywhere) Committee.
Hulce's shows have been performed nearly 200 times across the United States at colleges, universities and women's shelters. An educator and performance artist, Hulse has an associate degree in mental health and a bachelor's degree in sociology. She has been involved in women's advocacy and educational activities concerning women's issues for 20 years.
The show will be preceded at 6 p.m. by a Candlelight Vigil arranged by the college's Criminal Justice Organization in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Also, the Clothesline Project from Ohio will be on display at the college from October 18-21 in Rooms 2536 & 2538. The Clothesline Project (CLP) is a program started in Cape Cod, Mass. in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of violence against women.
