FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Sigma Omega chapter has won the Distinguished Chapter Hallmark Award for the second time in three years. The award was presented to the Parkersburg chapter in Minneapolis April 3 during the 86th annual PTK international convention. Chapters winning the award are recognized as one of the top 31 of over 1,200 PTK chapters throughout the country. The award continues the chapter's ranking in the top 100 chapters for the fifth consecutive year.
Also receiving honors were the chapter's service and fellowship essays which placed in the top 25 in the nation. Chapter members wrote essays after completing more than 100 activities including scholarship and service projects. Activities included working with the North Parkersburg Baptist Church on a Nicaraguan project and the chapter's "Breathe Right Eat Right" program designed to eliminate smoking in Wood County restaurants.
Individually, chapter member Laura Richardson received the George Bierkoe Distinguished Member Award during the Minneapolis convention.
In March, the chapter was honored as the most outstanding chapter for the fifth consecutive year at the Virginia regional PTK convention in Richmond, VA.
