Grantwriting Basics Workshop planned at WVU Parkersburg.
CONTACT: Becky Ash, Business, Industry and Development Services, 424-8275.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grantwriting Basics, an introduction for the new grantswriter and a refresher for those who are skill-polishing, will be held Friday (October 22) at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
The 9 a.m. to noon class will be held in the college's BIDS building. An afternoon class, Preparing a Grant Application, will go in depth and work through an actual narrative and budget for a sample grant project.
Lisa Starcher Collins, president of Charity Match and former chief executive officer of ARTSBRIDGE, Inc., will be the presenter, and Ann Frost, assistant director for the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund, will assist in the afternoon class.
Participants will learn from a seasoned grantswriter who works successfully in the field every day, and gain access to her assistance by follow-up e-mail for a month following the class. Ms. Collins has been a non-profit manager for 17 years. She has written millions of dollars in successful grant proposals, including state, federal, private and corporate foundations. She is now an independent contractor/consultant, and spends 75% of her work time as a grantswriter. Ms. Frost will present tips from the funder’s perspective in the afternoon class.
Topics to be covered include: research and identification of appropriate sources; preparing the required documentation for your organization to be grant-ready; developing relationships with potential funders; understanding the terminology and completing the paperwork; elements of a narrative; creating a clear budget, and tracking and evaluation methods.
Fee for the class is $55 per class for the first person from an organization, $45 for each additional person registered. Those who register for both morning and afternoon classes will receive the $10 discount as well. A $6 box lunch is available to be ordered with registration for those who are attending both classes. Paid registration includes thirty days of e-mail follow-up with the instructor.
Registration information is available by contacting Becky Ash at the college, 424-8275.
