WVU Parkersburg December Commencement to be held Friday, Dec. 17.

Nearly 190 area residents are candidates for graduation at Friday’s (Dec. 17) December Commencement at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

The 7 p.m. ceremonies will be held in the college's multi-purpose room.  Those receiving degrees include 189 August and December graduates with 11 earning two degrees.  More than 90 will be participating in the ceremonies.

Addressing the graduates will be long-time faculty member Dorothy Bibbee, coordinator of the college’s Photo of Dorothy Bibbeejournalism program.  A professor of journalism, she has been at the college since 1971.  She teaches journalism and children’s literature courses and serves as the adviser for the campus student newspaper The Chronicle.  Her address is entitled “Just Say Yes.”

Serving as grand marshals will be faculty members Jeff Holland and Paul Milhoan.  Kelli Barton, student government association president, will bring greetings from the student body.  The graduating class will be presented by Joseph Badgley, dean of academic affairs.  WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage will confer the graduates’ certificates and degrees.   

Bibbee received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University.  She and her husband Paul, also a faculty member at WVU Parkersburg, are the co-advisors for the campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa which has been recognized as one of the top 100 chapters in the country for the past five years.

A reception for the graduates and their families will follow Commencement.
