West Virginia University at Parkersburg is offering a free series of "Move Ahead" workshops designed to help area residents pursue a job they will enjoy.
Five free sessions are being offered. Participants may attend as many or as few as they choose. The workshop atmosphere will be informal and upbeat, noted Janet Ogilvie, WVU Parkersburg director of counseling. Being offered are:
Interested in a More Challenging Job? - The session will assist participants in deciding what job/career path they want to pursue through assessing their interests and providing a list of occupations they are best suited. The workshop will meet from 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 10 with Dotty Muir, dean of students, as session leader.
What’s My Perfect Workplace? - In this workshop, participants will learn about their special working strengths. It will meet from 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 17, with workshop presenter Janet Ogilvie, director of counseling.
What Type of Employment Would I Enjoy? - Information will be provided about career interests and potential employment options. Ms. Ogilvie will lead the session which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 24.
How Do I Land a Job? - Participants will receive tips on how to successfully interview for a job. Steps will be identified to provide an
“edge” in the job search process. The session will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., March 2, with Phil McClung, professor of psychology, as presenter.Career Preparation: Now What Do I Do? - Participants' career interests and options will be analyzed to develop action plans. Suggestions on how to write an effective resume will also be featured.
Workshop presenters will be Cheryl Bedell, career information specialist, and Pat Mollohan assistant to the director of placement. The session will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., March 9.All "Move Ahead" sessions will be held in Room 2536 at WVU Parkersburg.
