CONTACT:  Andrew Clovis, Theatre Department, 304-424-8295.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Auditions are scheduled August 19-21 for West Virginia University at Parkersburg's upcoming production of "Death by Durang: An Evening of Christopher Durang One-Act Comedies."

The three-play production will be presented October 3, 4 and 5 by the college's Theatre Department.

Audition times are 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, August 19;  4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, and 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, August 21.  Auditions will be held in Room 1305 and are open to the public.

The three plays included in the evening are "The Actor's Nightmare," "Funeral Parlor" and the Obie award-winning "Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You."  Roles are available for nine men and nine women.

"The Actor's Nightmare" tells the story of George who is not an actor. However, he finds himself in the unfortunate position of having to perform not only in "Hamlet," but in plays by Noel Coward, Samuel Beckett and Robert Bolt.  Originally written for a Carol Burnett television special, "Funeral Parlor" examines the relationship between a grieving widow and a very casual acquaintance of her late husband. One of Durang's most produced and popular plays, "Sister Mary" hilariously explores the chasm of true faith and faith that follows only the letter of the law.

Raised in the Catholic faith, and educated at Harvard and Yale, Durang won the 1980 Off-Broadway Theatre Award for "Sister Mary." Other awards include the 1986 Drama Desk award for "The Marriage of Bette And Boo," which also garnered an Obie. He is the author of "Beyond Therapy," "The Nature and Purpose of the Universe" and 1999's Obie winner "Betty 's Summer Vacation." Durang is co-chair of the drama department at Julliard University.

Anyone interested in auditioning for the WVU Parkersburg production may contact director Andrew Clovis at the college, 424-8295.  Additional auditions may be arranged by appointment.
