FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Interested in pursuing a college degree but not certain how to begin?

The Jackson County Center of West Virginia University at Parkersburg has a program just for you. Called GUS, for Gear Up for Success, the program is designed to make it easier for you to begin college by participating in a pre-college session this summer.

Two free information sessions will be held Friday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 19, at JCC so you can learn more about GUS. Both sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by noon.

There is no obligation; the one-stop-shop sessions will give you an opportunity to find out more about the program. The sessions will include information about GUS, career advising, placement testing, and the opportunity to apply online for financial aid.

"We’ve designed GUS to include classroom instruction and customized computer programs to enable students to practice skills and work on problem areas," Pam Braden, JCC director, explained. "Tutors, study groups and special summer activities will be available as well."

The GUS program will be held from May 12 to July 3 at JCC. For additional information about the information sessions, contact the JCC office, at 372-6992.
