WVU at Parkersburg Alumni Association meets scholarship challenge.
CONTACT: Dr. Joseph Badgley, interim president, WVU Parkersburg, 304-424-8200
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The West Virginia University at Parkersburg Alumni Association has met the challenge.
Three years ago, the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation issued a challenge to the college's alumni: raise $5,000 in five years and the Foundation would match the funds to fully endow an alumni scholarship at $10,000.
After only three years, the Alumni Association has presented a $5,000 check to the Foundation for its part of the challenge. The Foundation will now match the alumni donation with $5,000 to endow the WVU Parkersburg Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
"This shows a wonderful commitment to the institution on the part of our alumni and our Foundation," said Joseph Badgley, WVU Parkersburg interim president. "We're pleased that this partnership will result in such a rewarding scholarship."
Children and grandchildren of active alumni association members will be eligible for the scholarship. Donations continue to be accepted to increase the level of the fund with plans that it may be available for students during the Spring 2004 semester, Alumni Association officials noted.
Anyone who attended classes at Parkersburg Community College or WVU at Parkersburg is considered to be a college alumnus. The children or grandchildren of dues-paying members of the Alumni Association are eligible for the scholarship. Additional information about the scholarship or the Alumni Association is available by calling the alumni office at 424-8340 or visiting the website at WVU Parkersburg Alumni Association.
