The hills of the Mid-Ohio Valley will be alive with "The Sound of Music" this fall as West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Theatre Department presents the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
Auditions for the large cast of characters will be held at 6 p.m., Friday (August 23); and 2 p.m., Saturday (August 24) and Sunday (August 25) in Room 1305 at the college.
"My quest is to find the very right people for these memorable roles," theatre director David Sindledecker said. "I will combine them with theatre magic to make a wonderful memory for all of the performers."
Sindledecker said he is seeking children for the roles of the von Trapp family youngsters to portray Leisl, 16; Friedrich, 14; Louisa, 13; Kurt, 10; Brigitta, 9; Marta,7, and Gretl, the youngest, as well as Rolf Gruber, 17.
In addition, the musical includes 15 other cast members, including Maria Rainer, The Mother Abbess and Captain Georg von Trapp as well as neighbors, novices, postulants and contestants at the story’s pivotal festival concert.
Celebrating the centennial of composer Richard Rodgers, the production will be staged Oct. 25, 27, and 27 at the Smoot Theatre.
