Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats to Perform at WVU Parkersburg

Dazzling acrobatic displays, feats of daring and balance, explosive Kung Fu, brilliant costumes and a touch of comedy will be featured Friday, Nov. 22, when the Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats appear at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

Shangri-La AcrobatsThe 8 p.m. family-oriented program will be held in the college’s multi-purpose room.

For more than 25 years, the 16-member ensemble has been dazzling audiences with its precision and grace in flawlessly interpreting the 2000-year-old Chinese acrobatic art form. Years of training and discipline are evident in the multi-faceted evening of color, motion and sound.

Along with several appearances on PBS specials and other tv programs, the troupe has also received several awards for its compelling and captivating act. The troupe was awarded the Performing Arts Campus Entertainment Award by the National Association for Campus Activities, and was nominated for the Campus Activities Today "Reader's Choice Award for Best Live Novelty Act."

The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats’ appearance is part of the 2002-2003 Distinguished Performance Series. Tickets for the DP Series are available in the college business office; any remaining tickets will be at the door one hour before each performance. They are $10, adults and $5, students.   WVU at Parkersburg students may purchase special advance tickets for themselves and one guest for $2 each. All tickets at the door will be regular price. There are no reserved seats.

The DP Series is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and National Endowment for the Arts with approval by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, University System Board of Trustees Social Justice program, WVU at Parkersburg Academic Affairs budget, and student activity fee.
