West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Jackson County Center is offering a new accredited creative writing course this fall.
"Find the Writer in You: Conversations with Fiction Writing" is open to anyone who enjoys writing fiction, and reading authors of fiction such as Alice Walker, Ray Bradbury, John Steinbeck, Harlan Ellison, and Vladimir Nabokov.
Conversations will include West Virginia authors’ such as: Denise Giardinia, Breece D’J Pancake, Patricia Call, among many more authors preserving the culture and history of West Virginia through their writing.
The three-credit-hour course will meet weekly from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Fridays, beginning August 23 for 16 weeks at JCC.
"The class will encourage beginning writers to develop their own writing and produce a portfolio of work," said instructor Lawrence Mackenzie. "The class is aimed at beginning and experienced writers who want to improve their creative writing skills and to improve works already completed."
ENGL 297 presents a method for "making fiction" and introduces the student to several fictional genres. Guest authors, editors, and publishers will offer insights and suggestions about their respective styles of writing and strategies for publication conducted in a conversational atmosphere.
Registration information about the course is available by contacting the JCC office, 372-6992.
