West Virginia University at Parkersburg is offering a new course in "Concepts in Modern Dance" this fall.
Teaching the one-credit class will be Vicki Dils who will introduce students to the basic concepts of space, time, shape and motion in dance. The course will meet from 10 to 11:45 a.m. on Wednesdays, beginning August 22, at the college.
A native West Virginian, Ms. Dils earned a bachelor of science in dance from the University of Wisconsin. She studied in Colorado Springs and went on to New York City to perform with Alwin Nikolais, the Mimi Garrard Dance Theater and the Murray Louis Dance company. She was also influenced by Eric Hawkins, Merce Cunningham and Paul Tayler.
Over the years, she has developed her own highly original dance style. Since returning to West Virginia, Ms. Dils has impressed local audiences with her accomplished choreographic as well as performance skills. She is also an experienced teacher guiding students of all ages in creative movement and dance.
The modern dance class is being offered through WVU Parkersburg’s Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department.
