College To Conduct 30th Annual Commencement

Nearly 200 certificates and degrees will be awarded Saturday (May 12) during the 30th annual Commencement at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
Presenting the Commencement address will be WVU Parkersburg President Erik Bitterbaum.
The 2 p.m. ceremonies will be held in the College Activities Center. A total of 195 certificates, associate in arts, associate in science, associate in applied science, and baccalaureate degrees will be conferred upon members of the WVU Parkersburg Class of 2001. Approximately 115 candidates for graduation are scheduled to participate in the ceremonies.
Nell Higgins Orosco, WVU Parkersburg student government president, will bring greetings from the student body. Serving as faculty marshals will be Jane King, instructor of biology, and Cheryl Robinson, instructor of nursing. WVU Parkersburg President Bitterbaum will announce several new awards, including the Waller C. Hardy Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year; the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, and the 2001 inductee into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni. Four faculty members who are retiring will also be recognized. They are Roger Allen, professor of speech; Gene Barry, professor of mathematics and chair of the Technology Division; Sharon Goode, associate professor of business technology, and Ron McIntosh, assistant professor of technology.
A reception for the graduates, their families and college faculty will be held following Commencement in the cafeteria.
