2001-2002 DP Series Opens with Brubeck Brothers Quartet

A quartet featuring two sons of one of America’s most renowned jazz musicians will open the 2001-2002 Distinguished Performance Series at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
The Brubeck Brothers Quartet, including sons of jazz legend Dave Brubeck, will appear in concert Saturday, Sept. 29, in the college’s multi-purpose room.The 8 p.m. presentation will feature a unique blend of original compositions, jazz standards and Dave Brubeck classics.
The group features brothers Chris Brubeck on trombone, piano and electric bass and Dan Brubeck on drums with longtime friends Mike DeMicco on guitar and Pete Levin on piano and organ.
"We’re delighted to open our season with the next generation of Brubeck jazz musicians," noted H.G. Young III, professor of music and series coordinator. "It promises to be an entertaining concert and a glimpse into the future of jazz while honoring the jazz tradition."
Earlier this year, the quartet released a compact disc "Second Nature" with selections that combine jazz with elements of rock, classical, blues, funk, reggae and world music.
Tickets are on sale now in the college business office; any remaining tickets will be sold at the door one hour prior to the concert. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $2 in advance for WVU Parkersburg students, faculty and staff.
Rounding out the WVU Parkersburg 2001-2002 Distinguished Performance season will be "The POSTman Delivers" featuring Robert Post, 8 p.m., Oct. 26; the American Indian Dance Theatre, 7 p.m., March 10, and hammer dulcimer master Malcolm Dalglish’s "Hymnody of Earth," 8 p.m., April 6.
The Distinguished Performance Series is presented with financial assistance from the WVU at Parkersburg student activity fee and academic affairs budget and the WVU President’s Office for Social Justice.
