World Premiere of Millennium Composition April 8-9 |

| West Virginia University at
Parkersburg will present the world premiere of the musical composition,
"The Unknown Region: A Journey of Faith," April 8 with a
repeat performance on April 9.
WVU Parkersburg is the state’s representative for "Continental Harmony: New Music for the Millennium," a joint project of the American Composers Forum and National Endowment for the Arts involving all 50 states. The Parkersburg premiere will be one of 50 new musical works created in celebration of the millennium. The free Parkersburg performances are at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 8, and 2 p.m., Sunday, April 9 in the College Activities Center. The composer Kenton Coe of Johnson City, Tenn., will be present at the premiere and a reception will follow both performances. conduct the community of choirs consisting of more than 100 singers from
Parkersburg, including the WVU Parkersburg College Chorale, Parkersburg
High School Chamber Choir, Parkersburg South High School Chamber Choir,
Wood County Elementary Honors Choir and Ecumenical Choir from
Parkersburg churches.
The Continental Harmony project is being documented in the Library of Congress, featured on National Public Radio and will sound the millennium through a landmark new music festival on July 4 when the newly created works will be heard across the country. The July 4th performance in West Virginia will be staged at the West Virginia Cultural Center in Charleston. The Parkersburg performances are part of West Virginia Celebration 2000 and are presented with financial support from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, Artsbridge, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the WVU Parkersburg Music Department. |
