Foreign Film Series Opens Nov. 3

West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Foreign Language Department opens its 2000 Foreign Language Film Series with "Shunkin Sho," at 7 p.m., Friday (Nov. 3).

The Japanese animated classic is based on the famous story by Tanizaki Junichiro. A 30-minute cinema short, it tells the tale of a beautiful blind musician who is so skilled at playing the koto and shamisen that her music mesmerizes all listeners. Her caretaker learns how to play the shamisen, thus strengthening their bond. Their relationship is put to the ultimate test through a series of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

The film showing is free and open to the public. It will be presented in the Caperton Center for Applied Technology auditorium on the WVU Parkersburg campus. An in-depth discussion will follow, moderated by R.A. Oldaker, assistant professor of German and English.
