Faculty Member Wins WVAHPERD Award

A West Virginia University at Parkersburg faculty member has received the highest award bestowed by a state association.

Linda Meyers, WVU Parkersburg professor of health, physical education and recreation, has received the 2000 Ray O. Duncan Memorial Award from the West Virginia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, for her outstanding contributions and service to the association.

Purpose of the award, created in 1973, is to recognize an individual for his or her excellence in service and leadership in health and physical education in West Virginia. The award is named for the former dean of the West Virginia University School of Physical Education.

Ms. Meyers serves as WVAHPERD newsletter editor, the sports/athletics section chairperson and coordinator of the silent auction as well as school health education advocate for West Virginia and director of the West Virginia Girls and Women in Sports Association. She has also served as vice president of the Midwest District Level’s Health Division. At the national association level, she is a member of the district’s AAHPERD nominating committee and state coordinator for the National Girls and Women in Sport Day.

A resident of Williamstown, she has been a member of the college’s faculty since 1978.
