College Is Developing Multilingual Resource Guide

West Virginia University at Parkersburg is looking for a few good interpreters.

The college is seeking area residents with skills in other languages to become part of a community bank of interpreters and translators.

"With the state becoming more involved in export trade and the area offering more tourist attractions, the need for those with skills in languages other than English continues to increase," said Henry Nelson, WVU Parkersburg professor of romance languages.

As a public service, the college is developing a multilingual resource guide and Nelson is coordinating its development.

"This is a key part of our mission as an institution to serve as a resource to the community in anticipating needs and responding with appropriate services and expertise," President Erik Bitterbaum noted.

The guide will be made available free upon request and is expected to include a listing of area residents with multilingual skills who are willing to share their talents in service to the community or for possible remuneration.

Anyone willing to serve as an interpreter or provide translations is asked to contact Nelson at the college, 424-8000.
