HOW TO SEARCH THE EBRARY ELECTRONIC BOOK DATABASE.

.)        Go to the WVU-P Library home page at

http://www.wvup.edu/Library/index.htm and click on the “Electronic Books” link.  This takes you to the Electronic Books page.

.)        Ebrary is available on and off campus. Click on the “ebrary” link for on campus access. This takes you directly to the ebrary page for WVU-P.

.)        For off campus ebrary access, click on the “off campus access to ebrary” link.  A window will appear asking for a user name and password. Enter wvup as the user name and library as the password.  When the next page appears, click on the word “here” in the sentence “Click here to access ebrary.” This takes you to the ebrary page for WVU-P.

.)        You will need to download the ebrary reader the first time you use the database. The reader allows you to view the ebooks.

.)        Also, you should set up a personal bookshelf account with ebrary.
The account allows you to save book links to your personal online bookshelf, save bookmarks within a book, annotate pages, and highlight specific passages for later reference. Click on the “set up your optional account” link to establish an account.

.)        Ebrary has three search methods. The simple search method looks for your search terms anywhere in the books. To conduct a simple search, type your search terms in the “search for” box, then click on the “search” button.

.)        If ebrary locates books containing your search terms, it first displays a list of brief records for the books.  The brief records give you basic publishing information for the books. Links to additional search results pages appear at the top and the bottom of each page.

.)        The reader’s tool bar contains links allowing you to move forward and backward through the book.

.)     On the left side of the reader you will see three tabs for contents, notes and highlights. Click on the contents tab to display the book’s table of contents. Clicking on a chapter heading takes you to that section of the book.

.)     Clicking on the notes tab opens two windows allowing you to type end notes about the text you are reviewing and to look at previously typed notes.

.)     The reader’s tool bar has a highlighting function for highlighting sections of text.  Clicking on the highlighting tab displays previously highlighted text.

.)     The advanced search method allows you to link search term with the Boolean connector “and” for precise searching.  Also, options are available for limiting searches to the author, title, subject heading and publisher’s fields of the book’s record.

.)     The browse option allows you to browse through the books arranged in twenty broad subject categories.  Click on the category to view the books.

.)     Text may be printed from ebrary at no charge.  However, you are limited to printing forty pages of text during each search session.
