HOW TO SEARCH NETLIBRARY ELECTRONIC BOOKS

NetLibrary contains over a thousand electronic books covering a wide range of subjects.  Patrons may access the materials from any computer with Internet access.  You will need to have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your computer in order to use the ebooks.

1.)        Go to the WVU-P Library home page at http://www.wvup.edu/Library/index.htm

and click on the “Electronic Books” link.  This takes you to the netLibrary site.  You may also access it by going to http://www.netlibrary.com.

2.)        First time users of netLibrary need to create an account to sign out books.  Click on the “Create an Account” to display the account registration form.  Complete the form and submit it to netLibrary.  You are now ready to return to the netLibrary search page.

3.)        The netLibrary search engine allows for searching by title, author, subject headings, keywords, and full text with the ebook.  Select the type of search you wish to do and enter your search terms.

4.)        Keyword searching looks for your search terms in the title, author, subject headings, and publisher fields of the computer record for the ebook.

5.)        If netLibrary locates materials containing your terms, it first displays

short records for each book. Each short record gives the book’s title, author, publisher, and publication date.  Click on a book’s title to view the book’s summary page.

6.)        The summary page provides additional information about the book plus links for browsing the book or signing the book out.  You may browse the book for 15 minutes or sign the book out for 24 hours.

7.)        When the ebook is displayed, the works table of contents appears on the left side of the screen.  Use the Reader’s tool bar to read through the contents of the book.

8.)        Click on the “close ebook” button to close the work when you are finished.  Click on the “Check in this ebook” to check the work back in.

9.)        Click on the “log out” link on the netLibrary home page to leave the site.
