West Virginia University at Parkersburg

Simonton Windows Professorship (Faculty Excellence) Grants

Program Guidelines

A motivated, highly qualified and respected full-time faculty is critical to the success of the students and the college.  Student success is directly influenced by faculty excellence. West Virginia University at Parkersburg strives to deliver an exceptional educational experience to all students by recruiting and rewarding exceptional faculty. The Professorship Grant program is a meaningful way of recruiting and rewarding outstanding faculty contributions.  It seeks to reward faculty for demonstrated excellence in teaching and service to students, professional development, and service to the institution and community.

Purpose:  The Professorship Grants program is established to recognize and promote academic excellence at West Virginia University at Parkersburg by encouraging retention of promising full-time faculty members, and by recruiting talented new full-time faculty to the institution.

Because of the diversity of purpose in awarding these grants, two categories have been established:  Distinguished and Vanguard Professorship Grants.

Funding:  The grant award is to be used for personal stipend and professional development. The first half of the grant will be distributed in the Fall semester and the second half will be distributed in the Spring Semester. Professional development is defined as degree completion, advanced training, participation and/or attendance at professional conferences, and course and program development at the college. (Note:  The Internal Revenue Service stipulates that any award in the amount of $600 or more is reportable income.) The remaining half of the award is deposited into a Foundation account for use by the grantee.  Existing state and college guidelines for purchases of goods, services and travel govern expenditures of these funds.

Accountability:  All grantees must file a report at the end of the grant period listing activities and outcomes.
