Mid-Ohio Valley Tech-Prep Consortium

Those attending were: Doris Weekley, Bill Butler, Marie Foster Gnage, John Gorrell, Debbie Kafer, Doug Kiger, Joe Badgley, Dotty Muir, Paul Milhoan, Rick Coffman, Dennis Carpenter, Don Carlson, and Patsy Bee.
CALL TO ORDER:
Dr. Marie Foster Gnage, President at WVUP Parkersburg and Facilitators of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium called the meeting to order and presented the agenda
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the July 11, 2006 meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Mid-Ohio Valley Tech-Prep Consortium were approved upon a motion by Dr. Badgley and second by Mr. Carlson.
CTC CONSORTIUM (DR. MARIE FOSTER GNAGE)
College Transition Initiative: Dr. Muir reported that three schools have confirmed that they will participate, and they have a meeting scheduled with Ritchie County High School to discuss the initiative. Faculty have been selected and training will be August 15 and 16 at Stonewall Jackson Resort. High schools that will be participating are Williamstown High School, Wirt County High School, Roane County High School, and they are expecting Ritchie County High School to participate. There will be 10-15 students at each site.
Progress on Strategies :
College Updates: Dr. Badgley reported that the Compact Strategies for the Consortium have been approved by the WV Council for Community and Technical Colleges. He also reported that the math project with St. Mary’s High School and Ripley High School has been approved for funding again next year. It is hoped that this will become a state-wide program if it is successful.
School District Updates: Mr. Kiger reported that the LPN program has moved unto the WVUP campus and there are 32 students in the program. President Gnage added that once the Community Room is complete, that rooms 2536-2538 will also become nursing labs. Mr. Coffman reported that they will have 90 new students at the Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Center. Mr. Carpenter reported that they are hiring positions at the Roane/Jackson Technical Center. Doris Weekley reported that they are working on a Broadcast Journalism Program at Roane County High School. Mr. Kiger added that they will be starting an FM radio station at Parkersburg South High School.
Program Development Update: Don Carlson reported that the Summer Academies are going well and he will have a full report at the next meeting.
Grant Development: Mr. Carlson asked for approval from the Consortium to pursue a grant to fund Certified Nursing Aide(CNA) /Patient Care Technology Training. The grant would request matching funds from the Community and Technical College Council and requires approval from the Consortium. Mr. Carpenter made a motion to request matching funds from the WV Council for Community and Technical Colleges. Mr. Kiger seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Dr. Gnage also reported that the college has partnered with area hospitals to develop a DOL grant for the Health Sciences area. She requested letters of support from Consortium members.
TECH-PREP CONSORTIUM (BILL BUTLER)
Budget Report: Mr. Butler provided an update on the budget noting that $23,106.94 in Consortium funds is being held by Wood County Schools. He also reported that the total budget for 2006-2007 is $88,000 rather than $90,000 as previously reported. The grant was cut by $2,000 because of an error. Mr. Butler recommended that funds be taken from the EDGE Initiative reducing funds there from $29,000 to $27,000, and he provided the management plan to reflect the change. Mr. Carpenter made a motion to reduce funds in the amount of $2,000 in the EDGE Initiative. Mr. Coffman seconded the motion. The motion passed. Mr. Butler will place the new plan on file in Dr. D’Antoni’s office.
Mr. Butler noted the need to put a process in place to draw down money for parental workshops.
NTPN Meeting: Mr. Butler reminded Consortium members that there is money available to send about five people to NTPN Conference in Texas. President Gnage made a motion to approve sending five individuals including the coordinator, college representative, public school representative and technical center representative. Mrs. Weekley seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Coordinator’s Retreat: Mr. Butler reported that there will be a Coordinator’s Retreat on August 27 – 29 and suggested that the new Coordinator attend.
ACTION ITEMS:
Approval of New Tech-Prep Coordinator: Mr. Kiger thanked the hiring committee for their participation in the interview process. He reported that six candidates were interviewed for the position of Tech-Prep Coordinator and the Committee’s recommendation is Diane Braun. Mr. Kiger made a motion to accept the committee’s recommendation. Dr. Badgley seconded the motion. The motion passed.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Kiger presented Mr. Butler with a plaque for his service as Tech-Prep Coordinator.

With no further business to be discussed, the meeting adjourned. The next meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Tech-Prep Consortium will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006.
