Call to Order:
Dr. Joe Badgley, Executive Dean Academic Affairs at WVU Parkersburg, called the meeting to order and presented the agenda in the absence of Facilitator of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium, President Marie Foster Gnage.
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the June 13, 2006 meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Mid-Ohio Valley Tech-Prep Consortium were approved upon a motion by Ms. Weekly and second by Mr. Kiger.
CTC Consortium (Dr. Badgley)
College Transition Initiative - Violet Mosser reported that she met with Wirt County High School and they want to participate in the project during the fall. She will be meeting with Roane County High School this week. Training for the College Transition Initiative will be held on August 15, 2006 at Stonewall Jackson Resort. Books for the classes arrived today and are currently located in the President’s Office.
Progress on Strategies - Dr. Badgley reported that the Compact Strategies for the Consortium have been approved by the WV Council for Community and Technical Colleges. He also reported that the Wood County LPN program will move into their new offices on WVUP campus on July 17.
Program Development Update – Dr. Badgley reported that the college is looking at expanding its health care program at WVUP and providing training for such programs as Pharmaceutical Technology, and expanding the Surg-Tech Program. There is also the possibility of expanding programs in technology to include training for Allegheny Energy. The company will need to replace 322 technicians over the next three years. There is also a need for machining and machine shop workers, and a certificate program may be developed in that area.
Grant Development – Dr. Badgley reported that there is a possibility of some funding from the Department of Labor grant in manufacturing through the WV Council for Community and Technical Colleges and RESA that would emphasize programming in maintenance engineering, electronics, and similar programs with the possibility of partnering with Lab Volt and AMTECH to meet the needs of industry in our area.
Tech-Prep Consortium (Bill Butler)
Budget Report – Mr. Butler provided another copy of the Budget Report for July 1, 2005 – June 30, 2006, and reviewed the Budget for 2006-2007.
EDGE Site Coordinators – Mr. Butler presented two new EDGE site coordinators for approval to the Consortium. Susan Gerstell and Stephanie Poole will be sharing duties for Roane County High Schools, and Martha Brooks will serve as the coordinator for Williamstown High School. Consortium members approved the hiring of the coordinators.
Old Business
Update from Selection Committee for Tech-Prep Coordinator position. – Mr. Kiger reported that the hiring process is progressing for the Tech-Prep Coordinator position. Four candidates have been selected for interviews. The candidates will be interviewed on July 21. An email will be sent out to the Consortium with the selection of the new Coordinator, and that person will attend the next Consortium meeting.
Dr. Badgley suggested that each candidate would need to supply references. There was also a discussion on interview questions and a topic for presentations for the interviewees. Mr. Kiger requested that suggestions be sent to him or Dr. Badgley and they will meet to develop the final questions. Mr. Butler suggested that the fiscal agent be in the county where the Tech Prep Coordinator is located.
New Business
Mr. Kiger noted that it was mentioned to him the possibility of changing monthly meeting dates/times. This will be discussed at the next meeting.
Next Meeting
With no further business to be discussed, Mr. Smith made a motion to adjourn. Mr. Carpenter seconded the motion. The motion passed. The next meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Tech-Prep Consortium will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006.
