CTC Consortium (Dr. Joseph Badgley)
Dr. Badgley provided and reviewed a copy of the Executive Summary of the Report on 2006 Senate Concurrent Resolution 42 prepared by Nancy Laprade from The Pawleys Group. He asked Consortium members to review Recommendation #11 “Develop a promotional campaign to help West Virginians understand the value of career and technical education and the importance of postsecondary education and lifelong learning in the global economy.” Dr. Badgley provided information on the National Career Readiness Certificate which is based on the WorkKeys job skills assessment system, and suggested that establishing a similar program would help establish such a campaign through our Consortium.
Technical Program Development Opportunity
Dr. Badgley asked Consortium members to provide suggestions for Technical programs for adults that could be a joint program between WVU Parkersburg and the Tech Centers. Some suggested programs discussed included:
College Transition Initiative. Violet Mosser reported that she attended an assessment meeting regarding the College Transition Initiative and is pleased to report that all of the students that participated in the program excelled in some areas. The program was very successful in all counties and will be provided again next year.
Progress on Strategies. Dr. Badgley reported that a grant was received from the WV Council of Community and Technical Colleges in the amount of $140,000 for a Pharmacy Technician Program – one year certificate. It will begin in January, 2008.
Career Academies. Craig Rabatin reported that there are six Career Academy programs being offered with a total of 31 students participating. The Technology Division “Engineering Technology Academy” that will begin on July 9 and last four week currently has only two students enrolled.
Tech-Prep Consortium (Diane Braun)
Budget. Mrs. Braun provided copies of the budget report and reviewed it with Consortium members. Consortium members agreed that any extra funds for the year be used for promotion items for EDGE students.
NTPN. The NTPN meeting is October 11-13. Early bird registration needs to be submitted by June 30, 2007. Those indicating an interest in attending included: Violet Mosser, Dennis Carpenter, Joe Super and John Gorrell. Others interested in attending should contact Mrs. Braun by June 25.
EDGE Credits Mrs. Braun reported that over 700 EDGE Credits were awarded this year noting that the Site Coordinators did make a difference. Current access provides directory listing of all students but not by grade.
