Those attending were:  Marie Foster Gnage, Diane Braun, Rick Coffman,  Doug Kiger, Tina Buchanan, Carl Smith, Joe Smith, Mary Beth Busch, Violet Mosser, John Gorrell, Paul Milhoan, Sandy Butcher, Marilyn Rogers, Dotty Muir, Mike Boyd, Joe Badgley, and Patsy Bee.

 

Call to Order:

 

Dr. Marie Foster Gnage, President of WVU Parkersburg and Facilitator for the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium, called the meeting to order and presented the agenda.

 

Approval of Minutes:

 

The minutes of the March meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Mid-Ohio Valley Tech-Prep Consortium were approved with correction upon a motion by Mr. Boyd and second by Mr. Gorrell..

 

CTC Consortium (Dr. Marie Foster Gnage)

 

Review of Charge of Consortium.  President Gnage provided copies of the Legislative State Code 18B-3C-4 on Community and Technical College Consortia Planning Districts and asked members to review and suggest areas where strategies could be developed in the Compact to assist in fulfilling the Legislative mandate.

#4.  Regularly review and revise curricula to ensure that the workforce needs are met, develop new programs and phase out or modify existing programs as appropriate to meet such needs, streamline procedures for designing and implementing customized training program.

Suggestion: Transition programs in automotive repair program, child development, formalize relationships in early childhood education, certificates with auto program, possibly criminal justice classes, medical terminology.

 

#6. Plan and implement integrated professional development activities for secondary and postsecondary faculty, staff and administrators:

Suggestion:  Bring faculty to faculty together more in the math and sciences.  Add strategies and budget building into staff development programs.

 

#11  Establish a single point of contact for employers and potential employers to access education and training programs throughout the district.

            Suggestion: Strengthen relationship with Workforce Investment Board.

 

College Transition Initiative.  Violet Mosser reported that the program is going well noting that Roane County continues to be a challenge.  Ritchie County students will be visiting WVUP, and a trip is being planned to Blennerhassett Island on April 23.

 

Progress on Strategies.  Dr. Badgley reported that he will use information gathered today to include in the Compact update and the Compact will be submitted on time.  Tina Buchanan reported that she provided four training sessions at Ravenswood High School on Career Day.

 

Career Academies.  Mary Beth Busch, Interim Dean for Corporate and Community Education reported on the Summer Academies and provided a copy of the programs being offered.  Mrs. Braun asked if she would prepare handouts for the Counselors at their meeting on April 25.  There was a discussion about offering college credit through the Career Academies.  Mrs. Braun will discuss the possibility with Dr. Badgley.

 

Tech-Prep Consortium (Diane Braun)

Budget.  Mrs. Braun provided copies of the budget report and reviewed with Consortium members.  She noted that she has received her new computer and projector.  The banners and table cover have arrived.  One of the banners was displayed for members to view.  There was a discussion on creation of DVD/Power Point for the EDGE program.  Dr. Gnage will follow up with Connie Dziagwa.   Mrs. Braun also noted that all schools have now applied for grants.     

 

Report of Coordinator’s Meeting.  Mrs. Braun provided her report on the Coordinator’s Meeting.  It was noted that 40 text books would be needed again next year for the College Transition Initiative.  She will discuss WVEIS issues with Ms. D’Antoni. 

 

EDGE.  Mrs. Braun provided a copy of the new form for recording EDGE credit noting that it will make recording EDGE credit much easier.  She also noted that post cards can not be sent out to students or parents listing EDGE credit and courses that a student has earned.  It is permitted to send a post card letting students and parents know the students have earned credit for taking EDGE courses. 

 

Mrs. Braun noted that the NTPN meeting this year is scheduled for October 11-13 in Louisville, KY.

 

2007-2008 Management Plan. Mrs. Braun reviewed the Management Plan with Consortium members noting that the proposal for next year’s plan needs to be submitted by June 1.  She requested that members bring a copy of their plan and any final suggestions for next year’s proposal to the next meeting.

 

Next Meeting

The next Consortium meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at noon in the Community Room.
