Tech-Prep Consortium (Diane Braun)

Budget:  Mrs. Braun provided copies of the budget report and noted an error under the amount encumbered for supplies should be $2,250 rather than $2,150.  The parent handbooks for the current month are $1,000.  Encumbered expenses include $1,000 to Hamilton Jr. High School, $1,000 for food and door prizes for FAFSA workshops, and $250 for supplies for grant administration and EDGE initiative.  The carryover for this month remains $18,516.59.  Grants in the amount of $1,000 each were awarded to Jackson Jr. High School, Pleasants County Middle School,  Van Devender Jr.  High School, and Ripley Jr. High School.  Since WVUP is taking care of FAFSA workshops, the funds set aside for $3,000 will be moved to cover other items. Mrs. Braun requested that the Consortium approve the purchase of four EDGE banners.  Consortium members agreed to the purchase of the banners.  Mrs. Braun requested the purchase of a new lap top computer for Consortium’s use.  Consortium members requested that specifications for specific type of computer be presented and discussed at the next meeting

EDGE Report for State Department.  Mrs. Braun asked Consortium members for major accomplishments over the last five years for the EDGE report that needs to be submitted to Dr. D’Antoni.  Suggestions included:

Mrs. Braun provided a handout of EDGE credit taught at WVU Parkersburg.  She also noted that currently there are 22 + high school EDGE courses which correspond to 32 college courses offered at WVUP.  Dr. Badgley and Paul Milhoan will review the list and provide updates for the next meeting. Mrs. Braun noted that the State Handbook which provides lists of all courses in the State will be given to the Counselors.

Plans for Juniors this Spring.   There was a discussion regarding plans for juniors for this spring.  Mrs. Braun noted that 14 families have confirmed attendance at FAFSA workshops at three locations.  The Consortium recommended continuation of FAFSA workshops.  Other suggestions included testing, tutoring, and visits to the tech centers.  It was also suggested that seniors should visit the college, and that mailers be sent to seniors and parents of seniors regarding EDGE credit.  Dr. Muir suggested a recruitment DVD regarding our campus and career opportunities.  Mrs. Braun will work on something to be sent to parent.

2007-2008 Management Plan.  Mrs. Braun asked Consortium members to review this year’s plan and see if there are any other target areas needed, and come back to the next meeting with ideas for next year’s plan.
