Call to Order
Dr. Marie Foster Gnage, President of West Virginia University at Parkersburg, called the meeting to order and presented the agenda as the Facilitator of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium.
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the November 13, 2007 meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Mid-Ohio Valley Tech-Prep Consortium were approved upon a motion by Mr. Boyd and Dr. Brown.
CTC Consortium (Marie Foster Gnage)
College Transition Initiative. Violet Mosser reported that visits to WVU Parkersburg by the students in the program will need to be rescheduled because of the weather.
Communications. Mrs. Dziagwa reported that WTAP and Suddenlink are putting together specs to develop videos for EDGE programs and then bids can be offered. She also reported that she needs additional information to update the EDGE website. She has been in touch with some companies regarding billboards. She will prepare a news release regarding the NTPN conference attendees and would like to take a group photo to use for marketing.
Progress on Strategies. President Gnage reminded consortium members to review strategies listed in the Compact.
College Update
Dr. Richards provided the following:
· List of online course offerings for the Spring 2008 semester.
· A grant has been submitted for school house safety component to be embedded in our program.
· Distributed WVU Parkersburg Career Path Chart showing EDGE credits to be applied to Skill Certificate – HVAC/R and AAS Degree Multi-Craft Technology with HVAC/R option.
Dr. Brown reported on the following:
· Contacted school superintendents to receive letters of support for the Gear-Up program.
· Counselors Luncheon will be held tomorrow.
· Continuing Financial Aid workshops.
School Districts Update:
· Mr. Boyd reported on the rededication of Williamstown High School.
· Mr. Haught reported that they are considering adding a new program at the Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute.
Planning for Next Summer Career Academy. Mary Beth Busch reported that the same schedule with an engineering component added will be offered again next summer. Dates for the 2008 Summer Academy will be confirmed in January. It was noted that CCE has been managing the coordination of the Summer Academy, and they need someone that can be a lead person to assist with recruitment.
Workforce Investment
Mrs. Okes reported that workforce training funds is facing significant cuts. The previous cap of $4,000 for tuition, books and supplies has been lowered to $3,000 with a two-year maximum of $6,000. They are encouraging case managers to use WorkKeys and KeyTrain to provide certificates to those that don’t have credentials.
Tech-Prep Consortium (Diane Braun)
Budget. Mrs. Braun reviewed the budget noting that $27,000 has been encumbered for site coordinator salaries and Tech-Prep Coordinator salary; $600 for Consortium rental at WVU Parkersburg for May – December; $6,000 three tech schools – remedial programs; $3500 for tech school visits to WVU Parkersburg (t-shirts, lunch, etc.); and $1000 for grant to Jackson Jr. High School. To date $3,975.01 has been encumbered for NTPN expenses and travel, and $2000 for two grants to Edison Jr. High School and Blennerhassett Jr. High School.
FAFSA Workshops. Dates for workshops are as follows:
· Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute - January 31, 2008
· Roane/Jackson Technical Center – February 4, 2008
· Wood County Technical Center – February 6, 2008
Letters will go out after the holidays. A news story on the workshops was suggested.
Skills Bank. The Consortium members agreed to providing $6,000 for Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute and Wood County Technical Center since Roane/Jackson Technical Center is not participating in the program.
Since the Technical School visits were canceled because of weather, Ms. Buchanan will visit the Wood County Technical Center, and Roane County Technical Center will reschedule to January 14. T-Shirts will be distributed to those that were not able to visit the college.
WVU Parkersburg EDGE Credits. A revised list was distributed for Consortium members to review. The list identifies a one to one match for high school EDGE courses and WVU Parkersburg Technology Division.
Mr. Braun noted that last year there was a total of 7 students who transferred EDGE credits to WVU Parkersburg. This year there was a total of 45 students who would transfer EDGE credits to WVU Parkersburg.
Report from Coordinator’s meeting. Mrs. Braun distributed information on The Twenty Stars for Tech Prep Consortia in West Virginia noting that each item will be evaluated on a 1-3 chart and will need to be completed by May, 2008.
She also distributed information on Power Plant Technology. She noted that an industry in our region needs to be selected to work with them to create a program at WVU Parkersburg or to update a current program. It was noted that WVU Parkersburg had already begun working with three power plants in this area on a DOL grant.
Next, Mrs. Braun distributed an Executive Summary on the increasing demand for individuals to fill skilled jobs in the middle of the labor market, and noted she will discuss possibility of receiving information on the college freshmen that have followed their pathway to college.

With no further business to be discussed, the meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at noon in the Community Room.
