Those attending were:  Marie Foster Gnage, Diane Braun, Don Carlson, Connie Dziagwa, Joe Smith, Doug Kiger, Dennis Carpenter, James Mahan, Rick Coffman, Joe Badgley, Dotty Muir, Paul Milhoan, Tina Buchanan, Carl Smith, Violet Mosser, Bruce Martin, Sandy Butcher, Joyce Okes, and Patsy Bee. 

 

Call to Order:

Dr. Marie Foster Gnage, President at WVU Parkersburg and meeting Facilitator called the meeting to order and presented the agenda for the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium.

 

Approval of Minutes:

The minutes of the September 12, 2006 meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Mid-Ohio Valley Tech-Prep Consortium were approved upon a motion by Mr. Carpenter and second by Mr. Smith.

 

CTC Consortium (Dr. Marie Foster Gnage)

College Transition Initiative -  Violet Mosser provided an update on the College Transition Initiative noting that Wirt County High School will have nine students participating in the program, and that Ritchie and Roane County High Schools will participate in the spring.

 

Progress on strategies

College Updates:  Dr. Badgley reported that he has reviewed Consortium strategies with his Academic Council and they are looking for ways to improve progress on some of the goals.  President Gnage requested that copies of the strategies be provided for the next meeting for the Consortium to review.  Dr. Badgley also reported that several grant applications have been submitted to the WV Council for Community and Technical Colleges that would provide some new EDGE courses in computer technology, automotive technology, and welding.  He also reported that the WVCTC is also looking at the possibility of expanding EDGE credit to courses offered in business technology and criminal justice.

 

School Districts:   Mr. Coffman reported that Intro to Emergency Medical Preparedness has enrolled 93 students at the Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute.  Mr. Carpenter reported on health occupation classes at Roane-Jackson Technical Center.

 

Program Development – Don Carlson provided information to Consortium members on participants in the 2006 Summer Academies.  There were a total of 52 students that participated in the program.

 

Presentation on Consortium to CTCAC:  President Gnage announced that she will be making a presentation to the Community and Technical College Advisory County  Council on the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium.  Please send information to her that should be included in the presentation. 

 

Pro Desktop Software:  President Gnage reminded Consortium members of free software that was available for those that participated in the program training that was offered by the Community Colleges of Appalachia through a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.

 

Tech-Prep Consortium: (Diane Braun)

NTPN Meeting:  Ms. Braun reported that three people have registered for the conference.  They are hoping to have five attend.

 

Approval of EDGE Site Coordinators:  The following EDGE site coordinators were submitted to the Consortium for approval:

Vicky Langford

Marcia West

Tanya Ball

 

Dr. Gnage made a motion to approve the new Coordinators.  Dr. Badgley seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

 

It was noted that EDGE Coordinators are still needed for Williamstown High School and Ravenswood High School.  Ms. Braun reported that training sessions for the new coordinators will be held on November 13 and November 15. 

 

Budget:  Ms. Braun reported that the paper work is completed on the new grant.  There is a carryover of She noted that $1500 has been encumbered for the NTPN meeting.  She also reported that Jackson Jr. High applied for $1000 for a parent workshop.  Ms Braun provided copies of notes from Kathy D’Antoni indicating that all grant dollars must be liquidated by July 30 of the grant period.    It also noted parent signatures are required when using student’s social security numbers on the form for EDGE credit.    Other items included the following:

Criteria for “Best in EDGE” award:

 

Management Plan:  Ms. Braun provided a copy of the Management Plan for 2006 and reviewed information identifying four groups for targeted students in Welding, Automotive Technology, Child Care Technology and Computer Networking Technology.  She noted that workshops will need to be held onsite.  President Gnage requested that Dotty Muir work on this and dates that workshops could be held in early December.  Ms. Braun also noted that funds could be provided for special tutoring for targeted students.

 

New Business:

 

Youth Program:  Joyce Okes announced a youth program that Sandy Butcher will be coordinating.  She will send information out to Consortium members regarding the program.

 

With no further business to be discussed, the next meeting of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community and Technical College Consortium and Mid-Ohio Valley Tech Prep Consortium will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at noon in room 2536 on the WVU Parkersburg campus.
