TOPIC                                    DECISION/STATUS

 

ACT Conference                    Dotty announced that anyone wishing to go to this year’s ACT Conference in Charleston on February 21, should make their reservations soon.

 

Retention Conference            West Virginia University at Parkersburg is obligated to prepare a poster for this years Retention Conference.  The poster is to show how the $10,000 First Year Experience Grant is being used.  Tom, Emmanuel, Charlene, and Jamie will prepare the poster.

 

Office Furnishings                A list has been prepared by the Facilities Planning Committee listing office items that are in various offices on campus.  Dotty said that she and Tom are on the committee. Please inform one of them know if you have a strong opinion about what should or should not be allowed in offices.

 

ID Badges                               The President’s Cabinet discussed the new emergency system and the need for ID cards.  The cards will have information listed as what to do in case of emergency.  The trend is toward certain offices on campus, if not all, will be required to wear ID’s.

 

Staff Development                 All staff development programs and activities need to be added to performance reviews.  Everyone should be sure to sign in each time they attend.

 

Budget                                    Karen has sent out budget information in order to begin preparation for next year.

 

Other                                      Dotty asked everyone to be searching grant opportunities.  We will all be asked to write grants.  Many grants have due dates by the end of February.

 

Other continued                     Dotty suggested that we will most likely be looking at budget cuts next year due to information technology and telephone intra-structure upgrades that are needed.

 

                                                Cathy said that all is going well in the Disability Office.  They are settling in for the semester.

 

                                                Chris announced that the deadline for the Study Abroad and the Nursing scholarships is February 12.  March 1 is the deadline for the foundation scholarship.  All current scholarship recipients must have a new application.

 

                                                In February Chris is taking a group of students to WVU on a transfer trip.  They will experience “up all night” and will stay in a dorm. 

 

                                                Karen announced that there is Perkins money remaining that needs to be spent before the end of physical year.

 

                                                Karen should be notified if anyone did not receive a form for their budget number.  Each budget number must be

                                                itemization.

 

                                                Cheryl will be out testing the Transitions classes.

 

                                                Emmanuel is writing the script for the recruitment DVD.  Production will begin mid to the end of February.  Activities and classroom scenes are needed.

 

                                                A Reggae group will perform on February 14.  Food will be offered to students.  The smoking cessation program will be giving out information and prizes. 

 

                                                Tom announced that the January 31,  Super Bowl party went well.   On February 7,  the bloodmobile will be on campus. Tom is asking all to participate.  Loveture Jones will be providing a financial planning and investment lunch time seminar on February 21.

 

                                                Tim noted that he has visited regional employment and job service agencies in order to more efficiently network with these organizations.  A job fair will be held in Mineral and one is being considered in Marietta.                                              

                                                Jeff Holland reported that over 2,000 people were advised last year.  He is planning additional on-line registration training for faculty as well as students.

 

                                                Charlene reported that the smoking cessation program is now in progress.  She has scheduled faculty and staff flu shots for next October.  She announced that we need student volunteers 6 – 11 a.m. for a blood pressure screening.

 

                                                Sandy noted that she is working with Cheryl on career development and with Cathy on ADA issues.  She will be visiting the new Career Services center at Ohio University.

 

                                                Cecelia said that they are getting ready to send a general information packet to all high school applicants.  The Records Office will be moving temporarily on May 21, while renovations to the present location are in progress.  She is in the process of filing a temporary position to work on the backlog of files.
