Updates

Each CREW member read the Mission Statement that they had prepared for their individual area.  They are as follows: 

 

CAREER SERVICES

 

To provide career development counseling and job placement services to all West Virginia University at Parkersburg students and alumni to enhance their employment opportunities.

 

 Jackson County Center

 

To deliver placement testing, academic advising, financial aid, student involvement, records/admissions, career counseling, and disability services to the student who attend the Jackson County Center.

 

Student Activities

 

It is through student learning and development that Student Involvement complement's the institution's academic programs.  Extracurricular activities afford students important opportunities to grow and develop through the exposure to and participation in social, cultural, multicultural, intellectual, recreational, student leadership and community service programs.

 

Dean of Students

 

To assist students in meeting their educational goals in a manner that treats each student with dignity and respect.

 

Disability Services

The mission of the West Virginia University at Parkersburg Disability Services Office is to provide reasonable and effective accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.

 

Health & Wellness

 

To enhance academic success by empowering our campus community to become knowledgeable health care consumers, promoting healthier lifestyles that enable them to achieve and maintain lifelong health and well-being, and assessing and responding to the needs of all students through the development and implementation of proactive health and wellness programs and services.

 

Academic Advising, Testing, Orientation, First Year Experience

 

The mission of OATS is to provide community accessibility to the college, offer a broad base of services and resources to students and others in the community and to help them become successful in achieving educational goals, individual goals and transition into the college environment

 

Financial Aid

The mission of the FA office is to provide financial assistance to the students in a fair and equitable manner following federal, state, and institutional guidelines.

 

Danita asked that all mission statements be completed.  She also asked for suggestions on how to easier serve students.

 

Danita will send to each person a website template for area mission and goals can be added.

 

On December 4, 6 & 7 students will be on campus from the Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Center, Roane/Jackson Technical Center, and Wood County Technical Center.

 

A CREW mid-year retreat will be scheduled off campus in February.

Marketing

Danita will be working with Katrina Wright, Marketing Director for Grand Central Mall, to get marketing ideas for West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

Pandemic Flue

A campus committee has been working on guidelines for procedures if a pandemic flu outbreak.  They have been working on procedures for before, during, and after the outbreak.  How we would communicate with our students.  CREW members discussed how college business would be conducted. 

 

Each CREW member needs to review his or her area and determine responsibilities and how they would be accomplished.  

 

GroupWise

 

Danita reminded each member to all Student Services employees should keep their individual calendars up to date.

Other

Augie starts high school workshops.

 

Cathy Mutz reported that she has received an e-mail that challenges the legality of the policy for service animals on campus.

 

Cecelia reported that approximately 100 of the 250 December graduates will walk during ceremonies.

 

Drema reported that advising is still working with students.

 

Christine reported that JCC will conduct student conversations beginning next.  This is to encourage student participation and to get student input. 

 

Tom reported that a coffee house will be held this Friday in the student lounge. Faculty and staff members will be duct taped to the wall next Wednesday during Student Engagement period.

 

Allison reported that a low cost blood screening was held for faculty, staff and students.

Next meeting

We will review Target 2010 and values will be presented.
