 OLD BUSINESS

ANOTHER FLOATING HOLIDAY – Al announced that, by popular vote, it was decided to use our FY 2003-04 floating holiday on Friday, January 2, 2004 and come back to work on January 5th.

TOBACCO-FREE AFFIDAVIT – PEIA has extended the deadline again.  You now have until July 31, 2002 to return the tobacco-free affidavit.  The premiums deducted in July are not retroactive if you missed the June 30 deadline.  If you are eligible for the tobacco-free discount, premiums will start August 1, 2002.

COIN COUNTER – Staff Council is trying to obtain a coin counter for the donut and coffee money.

JCC TRAVEL EXPENSE – Dave Cunningham’s budget has been paying mileage in the past years for the JCC Staff Council Representative to attend meetings on the main campus.  Staff Council voted to pay half of the future mileage expense.

NEW BUSINESS

WVEA MEETING – Al reported that Faculty Senate is meeting with Kathy Smith from WVEA on August 15, 2002.  Paul Milhoan, Faculty Senate President, mentioned she would stay after 4:00 if enough staff were interested in speaking with her.  Please let Al Collins know as soon as possible if you are interested.

YMCA CHALLENGE CUP – The Challenge Cup is August 6 – 18.  We need dedicated participants.  Al will agree to captain if we have enough interest in it this year.  All staff, faculty, and family are eligible to participate.   Free membership to the YMCA during the Challenge Cup is a bonus to participating.  Please see Al BEFORE July 31, 2002 if you are interested.

STAFF PAY RAISES – Classified Staff will receive a pay raise effective October 1, 2002.  It will be 20% of the difference between your current salary and where you should be on the new salary schedule.  Staff will not receive the total amount of their new salary but will receive 1/24th of the new salary each pay period from October 1, 2002 – June 30, 2003.

WOMEN’S RESTROOMS – Staff Council will inquire into Maintenance installing hooks on the stall doors for women to hang their purses and backpacks.  This measure is being pursued to eliminate the amount of thefts occurring in the restrooms.

GOOD OF THE ORDER – Michael Wolfe, Campus Police Officer, is the Employee of the Month of August, 2002.  Congratulations Mike!

Respectfully submitted,

Melody Mercer
