Emergency Preparedness Month The Safety Committee had a booth during the club fair and provided information about emergency kits and family preparedness plans. Information was also sent to JCC for students.
Scripts/ Filter Connie Dziagwa gave background information about the filter trouble. She now has a way to bypass the system & send immediate information to MIX accounts.
Danita Brown noted that many students do not use MIX. She said that SGA is planning to setup tables that promote MIX and show students how to use it. She suggested using faculty senate to encourage faculty to require MIX. Aaron Crites mentioned that he put a statement about MIX in his syllabi and uses it in case class needs to be canceled. Connie Dziagwa is in the process of localizing a WVU brochure about MIX.
Counseling Agreements Danita Brown is meeting with Westbrook next Friday. She is hoping to set up a system to provide for students. She is getting in touch with Morgantown to see if they can send interns to Parkersburg. She is trying to get something for free.
Cathy Mutz noted that the Safety Plan says to refer students to the Dean of Students. She said that counseling is included in the student health plan, but it is pricey. Allison Sayre stated that she has had 2 students come in for referrals and she gave them brochures.
Dave White gave a brochure to Patsy about a Ministerial Alliance that provides counseling at no cost-we just pick qualified counselors from the list.
Michelle Bissell gave an update about the Employee Assistance Resource renewal for faculty/staff. It now includes a statement about crisis support. |

Phone System Connie Dziagwa informed the committee that a malicious call tracing system is being installed on some extensions. It will capture the phone number and also record the call. The caller will not be able to hang up. This will be installed within the next few weeks. It could possibly be installed on all direct-dial numbers at some point.
JCC has a different phone system, and they are researching how to do it there.
Safety Plan- Bomb Threats A copy of changes to the emergency procedures section of the safety plan was distributed. A copy has been submitted to Debbie Richards for the Answer Book.
Police response Aaron Crites inquired about the capabilities of the local police. Dave White responded that since we are not in the city limits, the sheriff responds to our calls. SWAT and deputies responds to bomb threats. Dave stated that several deputies are being brought in to tour the campus. He said that the Eastwood and Mineral Wells fire departments have received tours.
Security Concerns Concerns were raised that criminal justice students have the 911 channel on their radios and this could cause panic. Jan Miller will talk with Al Collins and bring a recommendation from the Safety Committee that the students should have different radios.
Concerns were also raised about confidentiality and liability with the criminal justice students patrolling. Rhonda Richards suggested that she, Connie, Dave, and President Gnage meet with Nelson Ortiz about the criminal justice students.
