Old Business
Switchboard Training/Fire Alarm System
David White reported that the switchboard/fire alarm system training plan has not been completed due to the need to hire a switchboard operator who will need to receive training, Jan Miller asked if any testing had been conducted and Dave White responded that all the rooms have been tested.
Jan Miller expressed the need for other personnel besides the switchboard operator to know operational procedure for the paging system. She stated that some instructors don’t realize the paging system is a 2-way communication and that there is a need to keep track of which room called the switchboard.
Craig Rabatin responded that once a written procedure is in place, these issues will be addressed.
A comment was made in committee regarding the lack of safety training/information sharing with adjunct faculty.
Paul Milhoan expressed his understanding that this would be covered by the course Community College 101 under “Faculty Roles & Responsibilities.” The plan is for the course to be available to adjunct faculty by the fall 2007 semester. He stressed that taking the course is optional for adjunct faculty but if they want to receive funding from the Foundation for Professional Development, they need to take the course.
Paul suggested that another option would be to make the course mandatory so that all adjunct faculty get the same training.
2006 Annual Report
Craig Rabatin asked the committee to review the 2006 Annual Report for any changes/corrections to be sent to Morgantown.
Lennie Moore stated that under item #2, the print shop has acquired an eye irrigation kit; therefore, an eyewash station was not needed.
John Tharp questioned the wording of item #7 that suggests the chemical hygiene plan was written in the recent past when, in fact, it has been in place since May, 1992. He suggested that item # 7 be written to indicate that the existing chemical hygiene plan has been reviewed and corrections made to bring it up to date.
John Gorrell reported that the rope ladder that was discussed at the last meeting for a balcony area at the JCC campus to be used in a fire emergency was determined to be undesirable and he is looking into other options.

Safety Plan Charette 2/23/07
Craig Rabatin spoke about the Safety Plan Charette scheduled February 23, 2007. This meeting has been scheduled by President Gnage so that members of the Safety Committee, the President’s Cabinet, and the Computer Services personnel can review and finalize the WVUP Safety Plan.
Other New Business
Cathy Mutz stated the need for emergency exit diagrams in all classrooms after discovering that they were absent in some rooms such as rooms 133 and 134.
David White discussed the possibility of covering the alarm system button because of incidents where they have been inadvertently switched on. He is looking into the cost of plastic lift-up protection plates.
Carson Soelberg and David White discussed the need for the Theater to be kept locked and a sign-out sheet used to keep track of safety issues such as access to the ground floor, etc. This would also represent responsibility for such things as clean-up after use, removing stage props, etc.
Jan Miller raised safety/fire concerns about hallway blockage from ladders, tool carts, and furniture in front of the basement exit doors. She also mentioned that the new nursing computers were left in room 3540 with the door unlocked and open.
