Planning Council

President’s Conference Room

February 19, 2007

11:00 a.m.

Those present were: Joe Badgley, Paul Milhoan, Mary Beth Busch, Dotty Muir, Don Carlson, Jack Simpkin, Connie Dziagwa, Curt Fulmer, David White, John Gorrell, Jenny Keup, Marie Foster Gnage, David Cumberledge and Patsy Bee.  Absent: Rebecca Phillips, Jan Miller, and Dan Williamson.

Plans for Comprehensive Facilities Plan and Safety Plan

• President Gnage noted that the Master Plan Charette would meet again to review the entire document.
• President Gnage reported that the President’s Cabinet and the Safety Committee will hold a Safety Plan Charette on Friday, February 23 to finalize the Safety Plan. League for Innovation survey on safety and recovery plans will be ready for the committee to review.  The Committee will also review emergency flip charts for the main campus and Jackson County Center to see what is missing.
• The Enrollment Management Plan Committee has completed the Enrollment Management Plan and it has been sent out for review and will be approved at the next Planning Council Meeting.

Review Strategic Plan Goals and Objectives and Format for Response this Year

• President Gnage requested that Council members review the Strategic Plan Goals and Objectives to see if new objectives need to be added or if some of the ones listed should be deleted for their respective areas.
• President Gnage appointed a Strategic Plan Sub-Committee with Joe Badgley, Connie Dziagwa, David Cumberledge, and Mary Beth Busch to review the plan and come back to the Council with summary statements suggesting improvements for our third year.  Connie Dziawa suggested looking at the plan from the standpoint of our Compact.

Institution Research Report

• Curt Fulmer provided information and summary of the types of data that he collects for WVU Parkersburg.  Handouts and details regarding the following reports were provided to Council members:
  • Student File
  • Registration File
  • Course File
  • Teaching Workload File
  • Applicant File
  • Graduation File
  • Financial Aid File
  • Personnel File

President Gnage noted that she needs information from the Higher Education Policy Commission that would assist WVUP in improving graduation rates.  Curt will provide information on what she would need to request.  President Gnage also noted that the goals for next year is to have a degree audit system in place.

Grant Priorities

• Council members reviewed the grant log provided of potential grants to be submitted and when they are due.  It was suggested that Title III grant be pursued this year if a grant writer is available.

Update on Answer Book

• Connie Dziagwa reported that President Gnage would like to have a one-stop web site that employees could go to for information.  She met with President Gnage and Debbie Richards to discuss how some of the Answer Book information could be placed on this type of web site.

Code of Ethics

• President Gnage will email a copy of the document to Council members.
