Strategic Plan

President Gnage asked each Council member to provide areas of the Strategic Plan where they feel the college has made the most progress and to identify where more work needs to be done.

Areas of most progress

Environment:

·         Adjunct faculty resource room

·         Records and Admissions

·         Forensics lab

·         General appearance of the college

·         Smart Classrooms

Recruitment and Retention of Faculty and Staff:

·         Salary increases

·         Email for adjuncts

Resource Development:

·         Faculty/Staff/Adjunct Prof. Development

·         Honors College

·         Developing new partnerships

·         Grants

Enrollment Management:

·         Good #’s from Learning Center – helping with retention

·         More faculty using “Smart Thinking” online tutoring tool

·         First Year Experience

Technology

·         Improvements with Web CT

·         Good feedback on Super Saturday

Areas needing most work

Resource Development:

·         Be more aggressive in writing grants

Technology:

·         Need complete online program

·         Make sure WVU OIT works to meet our needs.

·         Online support for students through WVU Help Desk

·         Lack tech support in the evenings

Environment:

·         Adjuncts need lockers

·         Phones needed for adjuncts

·         Two or three more smart classroom will be completed this year

·         Message Board will be installed at JCC

·         New cooling/heating system to be installed – working with company through WVU will save money

Enrollment Management

·         Provide more support to students

·         More programs on Friday and Saturday

·         Add MIX to course syllabus

·         Have student government officers visit high schools to recruit students

A copy of responses from In-Service survey was distributed to Council members for review.

Suggested having statement on syllabus and add something about civility and tolerance and treating others with equity and respect- appreciation of diversity

Safety Plan Update

Plan has been completed, updated and is posted on website.

Additional information:

·         ID badges for faculty and staff will be completed by the end of this year

·         Shelter in Place locations: Multi-Purpose Room and Journalism Lab

·         Seven building coordinators and seven alternates have been identified

·         Cell phones have been assigned to building coordinators
