Dr. Bitterbaum called the Planning Council meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2000, in the President's Conference Room on campus. Those present were Dr. Erik Bitterbaum, President, Dr. Joe Badgley, Dean of Academic Affairs, Mrs. Judy Higgs, Dean of Students, Dr. David Bell, Dean for Business, Industry and Development Services; Connie Dziagwa, Director of Communications and Public Relations; Dr. Sy Sarkarat, Business and Economic Division Chairperson; Gary Waggoner, Natural Science and Mathematics Division Chairperson; Tim Beardsley, Counselor and Patsy Bee, Administrative Assistant to the President. Absent was Dan Williamson, Director of Computing Services.
Dr. Badgley distributed and reviewed copies of the institutional compact. He explained that SB 653 requires each institution to prepare a compact that identifies how their institution will make progress toward objectives and goals identified in a 6-year plan. He asked Planning Council to review the document and let him know of any suggestions, comments or concerns. He noted the Compact is due at WVU in Morgantown by December 22, and will be included with their plan due at the end of January.
Next Council members reviewed completed surveys from 40 faculty and staff members requesting suggestions on improving enrollment and retention. Dr. Bitterbaum asked Council members to review the materials and meet again next week to discuss in more detail. He explained that data from the survey would also be compiled and sent to Council one day prior to the next meeting.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting adjourned at 2:05 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for the Wednesday, December 6 at 8:00 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Patsy Bee
