Planning Council

President’s Conference Room

October 31, 2006

Those present were: Joe Badgley, Rebecca Phillips, Paul Milhoan, Mary Beth Busch, David Cumberledge, Dotty Muir, Don Carlson, Jack Simpkin, Connie Dziagwa, Curt Fulmer, David White, John Gorrell, Dan Williamson, Jenny Keup, Jan Miller, Marie Foster Gnage, and Patsy Bee.

Master Plan.  President Gnage reported that the Comprehensive Master Plan was near completion and it will be completed with only an outline of Enrollment Management Plan rather than the completed document.

Institution Compact Updates.  President Gnage requested that every area look at how they would address each of the goals in the Compact and provide information to Dr. Badgley.

Institutional Policies.  President Gnage asked for suggestions for making our “Answer Book” more useful and user friendly rather than being thought of as a policy manual.  Council agreed that the name should remain the same and the divided sections remain the same, but that additional information could be added such as a purpose statement describing the Answer Book, a list of frequently asked questions, and a clearer idea of what is policy and what is procedure.  President Gnage requested that Connie Dziagwa work with Debbie Richards in developing a statement describing the Answer Book.  President Gnage also requested that Planning Council review the list of policies to make sure that nothing is left out, and to check to see if there is a WVU Policy.  She also requested that they look at sections within to make sure all important areas of the college are covered.

Priority Grants.  President Gnage reported that the college is looking for a Grants Writer.  She noted that there are some grants that have greater priority such as:

  1. Enhance Educational Process for Children/Adults
  2. Arts/Culture (DPS Series) – adding Mountain Stage
  3. Disabilities Services

The Ross Foundation deadline for grant submission is November 1, 2006 and May 1, 2007.  Since the November 1 deadline is so close they will look at possibilities for the May deadline.

Rebecca Phillips reported that they are working on an international grant in the amount of $15,000 to support languages and international students.

Connie Dziagwa reported that a grant has been submitted to the Department of Highways for improvements to our walking trail.

With no further business to be discussed, the meeting adjourned.

                                                                        Respectfully submitted,

                                                                        Patsy J. Bee
