  • Refreshment Break.  The Library is providing free coffee, tea and cocoa during the last week of classes and finals. Please stop in for a cup.  (Submitted by Stephen Hupp)
  • Fnal Exam Schedule.  Link to exam schedule is here.
  • After-Hours Drop Box.  The Admissions & Records Office now has a drop box for after-hours correspondence.  Standard hours for the office are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The office will continue to provide extended hours during the week prior to and the first week of classes for the Fall and Spring semesters (8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Thursday).  The office will also continue to provide extended hours on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. during weeks two through six of the Fall and Spring semesters.  (Submitted by Leslie Sims 11/21/08)
  • Staff Council Prize Patrol.  Staff Council started a new appreciation program in the fall.  In a weekly drawing, two staff members receive a gift.  This week’s winners are Fritzann Isenhart from the Children’s Room, and Tess Martin from the Testing Center.  Each won a year's magazine subscription.   For more information and a list of previous winners, click here.  (Submitted by Al Collins 11/19/08)
  • 3-D Art Pottery Opportunity.  The 3-D Art Department is sponsoring a Pottery/Bake and Soup Sale from 9 am. to 6 p.m., Dec. 1 and 2nd outside the Library.  Works by students and faculty will be featured.  Proceeds will go toward future art equipment, presentations by guest artists, and student field trips.  (Submitted 11/19/08)

  • WVADE President Elect.  Lisa Flowers-Clements is the president elect of the West Virginia Association of Developmental Education.  She was elected at the association's recent conference session.

  • Fall Concert.  The WVU Parkersburg College Chorale will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the college theatre.  The concert will feature the Chorale's fall repertoire.  The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. H.G. Young III, professor of music.  (Submitted 11/14/08)

  • Circulating Around Campus.  The WVU campus has reported employees and students receiving fake email messages, appearing to originate from their own WVU GroupWise or MIX email address. The body of the email appears to be a solicitation to purchase discount drugs but clicking on a link could possibly download a virus to your computer. If you receive an email appearing to originate from your WVU email account and you did not send it, do not click on any attachments and delete the email.   • Undergraduate Tuition Waiver Form.  The forms and process for applying for WVU Parkersburg undergraduate tuition waivers have been updated.  The forms are located at this link.  If you have any questions about the new forms or the process, please contact Jeff Scott in the Financial Aid office or Peggy Jameson in Human Resources.  (Submitted 11/10/08)
  • The Sampler.  This is a reminder that the American Sampler Craft Show is Nov.19th in the Multi-Purpose Room.  Along with the craft show, there will be a rummage sale.  Used items are needed, so do some fall cleaning and get rid of those items that you no longer need or have been saving "just in case you might need them" and give those items to Doris Tustin in the Purchasing Department.  If you have large items, let Doris know in advance so she can arrange help to put them in storage until the sale.   • Increased retirement contribution limits.  The maximum contribution limits for Supplemental Retirement Accounts (SRA) will increase for calendar year 2009.  The maximum amount allowed by the IRS will be $16,500 (versus $15,500 in 2008) for individuals under age 50.   MORE  (Submitted by Peggy Jameson 11/5/08)
  • Procedural rule issued for payment of unused sick leave for eligible employees.  On Oct. 28, 2008, the WV Department of Administration distributed procedures for eligible state employees to surrender a portion of their unused sick leave for a taxable cash benefit.  Information is available here(Submitted by Peggy Jameson 11/3/08)
  • In Honor Of WVU Parkersburg is among more than 700 who have placed a brick as part of the Steppingstones of Honor tribute in the City Park.  The bricks are engraved to honor those who served in peacetime and in war.  The area was dedicated as part of Veterans Day Tuesday.

  • Board of Governors' meeting.  The WVU at Parkersburg Board of Governors will meet tonight.  MORE
  • Diversity Week Luncheon.  Seats are still available for the Diversity Week Luncheon featuring Dr. Jacqueline DeLaat on “Gender in the Workplace: How’re We Doing?”  There is no charge for the lunch; however, reservations are required and will be accepted on a space available basis through Monday, (Nov. 10).  Register here.  (Submitted by Debbie Richards 11/6/08)
  • W-2 Address Changes.  Please check the address on your next paycheck.  If it is not correct, contact Human Resources by Dec. 12 so that your W-2 will be sent to your current address. You may also access an online form and email to Nancy Hindy in HR.   For work study or student workers, please remember, changing your mailing address in the Records Office does not change it in the payroll system.   HR must also be notified.  (Submitted by Melody Mercer 10/30/08)
  • Partners in Education Luncheon.  Approximately 300 representatives from Wood County elementary and secondary schools and area business and industry will celebrate their partnerships at a luncheon to be held at noon, Friday (Nov. 7), in the college's multi-purpose room.  Parking Note:  The upper parking lot will be reserved for the luncheon attendees.  (Submitted 11/6/08)
  • WVCCA Honors.  A West Virginia University at Parkersburg staff member was recognized as an outstanding contributor to community college education at the recent annual conference of the West Virginia Community College Association.  MORE
  • In Azerbaijan.  Fulbright Scholar and WVU Parkersburg faculty member Dr. Sy Sarkarat will present an upcoming lecture on "Introduction to Fiscal and Monetary Policy" as part of his activities while at the Azerbaijan State Economic University.  MORE  (Submitted 11/3/08)
  • On the Air.  The Caperton Center has joined the closed circuit network of tv monitors located throughout the campus.  The 24-hour broadcast tvs are used to inform, publicize or promote college activities, opportunities or events as well as serve as a communications source in an emergency.
