Traveling Exhibit. Imagine a collection of vintage photographs of some of Southern West Virginia's most important musicians. Add a listening station with songs from many of those artists and you'll have an idea of what to expect when you visit the WV Music Hall of Fame's latest traveling exhibit "Music of the Coalfields" currently on display through Feb. 23 in the college's student lounge. The two exhibits are a testament to the pervasive presence of music during the mid-1900s. Included are photos of Maceo Pinkard, who penned "Sweet Georgia Brown," the well-known theme song of the Harlem Globetrotters. Other groups featured are the Ink Spots (which included Bluefield pianist Bobby Benson), promoter Ralph Weinberg (pictured with boxer Jack Dempsey) and a striking photo of Duke Ellington performing to a packed hall in the 1950s. Other photos feature a young, fiddling Sen. Byrd and psychobilly pioneer, Boone County's Hasil Adkins. The exhibits have been on display throughout West Virginia. The "Music of the Coalfield" exhibits are sponsored by the United Mine Workers of America, the Regional Coal Heritage Authority, and the WV Humanities Council. MORE (Submitted by H.G. Young III 1/25/07)
Foundation Center Database Materials. The library has printed from the Foundation Center Online database the records for foundations providing grants and other founding specifically for organizations and individuals in West Virginia. These materials are at the Circulation Desk. Please contact Stephen Hupp for additional information. (Submitted by Stephen Hupp 1/25/07)
Delta Iota Omega. If there are any students wishing to join the Criminal Justice Club Delta Iota Omega, they need to see Jennifer Metz or Michelle Carvell as soon as possible if they wish to be inducted during the spring inductions. All money and applications are due by February 2nd.
Also, any Delta Iota Omega member who would like to participate in the National Competition in Wilmington, DE needs to see Jennifer Metz, Michelle Carvell or Nelson Ortiz by February 2nd. There is a list of competitions in the forensics lab and on the fraternity's website. (Submitted by Jennifer Metz 1/25/07)
Weather Cancellations, Delays. College announcements regarding any weather cancellations or delays impacting the campus are announced via the college website, main switchboard number and area media. Note: the college rarely closes due to weather-related conditions. MORE (Submitted 1/24/07)
Applications Due. The Foundation scholarship applications are now available in the scholarship/advising center. The deadline for Foundation scholarships is March 1, 2007. For academic scholarships students must have a minimum GPA of 3.2. Please note that current scholarship recipients need to resubmit an application for possible renewal. (Submitted by Chris Kimes 1/22/07)
Relay for Life. The WVUP Relay for Life team is conducting their annual fundraiser of selling Joe Corbi products. Orders and payment are due by Feb. 5th, with delivery on Feb. 27th. Please see Tom Yencha, Vickie Yencha, Augie Kafer, Debbie Kafer, Janice McCue, Dennis Bell, Pat Mollohan, Cheryl Robinson, Amy Richards, Sharon Smith, Sandi Smith, or Leslie Sims if you are interested in ordering. If you do not care to order anything, but would still like to make a donation to the American Cancer Society, we would be happy to accept your donation through our Relay for Life Team. (Submitted by Leslie Sims 1/22/07)
Deadline Approaching. The Lawrence-Berrey Study Abroad deadline is approaching. The deadline is February 12, 2007. Please inform your students about this wonderful opportunity to allow them to study abroad. Students have to be full time and have completed at least 24 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 3.2. Students also must submit three letters of recommendation and a copy of their college transcript along with the application. Applications are available in the scholarship/advising center, Room 1208. (Submitted by Chris Kimes 1/22/07) Reminder. Position Information Questionnaire program will be offered on Tuesday, January 23 at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM in the Community Room. (Submitted by Peggy Jameson 1/22/07)

Entrance Carpets.
The carpet runners/floor mats at each of the interior doors to the college are provided by a contracted service. Every two weeks, the service picks up the rug runners and replaces them. Several of the carpet runners have turned up missing in recent weeks. Please do not remove the carpet for your offices or to re-locate somewhere else on campus. Questions?
