LET'S TALK RELIGION. The Social Justice Committee invites everyone to a Let’s Talk Religion panel discussion at 11 am on Wednesday, March 28 in the theatre. Panel members will represent three different religious communities -Islam, Baha’i and Anabaptist. The discussion will be structured to allow an opportunity for questions and answers. DEADLINE EXTENDED. The tour bus has been confirmed for the April 20 trip to Cincinnati to tour the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. The deadline to register is being extended on a space available, non-refundable basis. CERAMIC/BAKE SALE.
The Art department is having spring Ceramic / Bake sale that will take place outside of the library Monday, March 26 and Tuesday, March 27, 9 am - 5 pm. (submitted 3/26/12)

LIBRARY ADDITION. The Library has added Education in Video to its database collection. This contains over 1000 streaming videos presenting teaching demonstrations, lectures, documentaries, and primary-source footage of students and teachers in actual classrooms. Education in Video is available on and off campus. Please contact Stephen Hupp for login instructions and additional information.

PTK FUNDRAISER. Phi Theta Kappa is holding a fundraiser to take students to the 94th International Convention in Nashville, Tenn. in April. The organization is selling gift cards for BELK department store's big spring sale, which takes place April 21 from 6 to 10 am. The cards are $5, which the buyer receives back with the first purchase that morning. Gift cards are available from any Phi Theta Kappa member or contact Dianne Davis (ext. 693) for a card or further information. (submitted 3/20/12)

Vincent Who? On Tuesday evening, March 20, at 7 pm in the college theatre, WVU at Parkersburg will host Curtis Chin, producer and director of the film "Vincent Who?" for the film’s premier screening in West Virginia. The event is free and open to the public. More. (submitted 3/19/12)

DON'T MISS THE PHANTOM. Franc D'Ambrosio, "the world's longest running Phantom," will present "Broadway's Songs of the Great White Way," (including selections from "The Phantom of the Opera," on Friday, March 23 at 8 pm in the College Activities Center. DAISY DAYS. Camden Clark Foundation, with the support of our local American Cancer Society, is proud to continue "Daisy Days." With your $10 donation, you receive a fresh-cut daisy bouquet in a keepsake flexi-vase. The daisy represents "new beginnings" and the miracles in bloom each day at the Comprehensive Cancer Center. All proceeds benefit Camden Clark’s Cancer Center, which provides clinical trials, modern equipment, patient navigator services, and the Cancer Outreach Center – a conference center and educational outlet supported by the American Cancer Society. DRIVER TRAINING. Per new WV State Travel Regulations, any employee wishing to drive a state-owned or rental vehicle, and/or file for personal mileage reimbursement must first complete a mandatory, state-approved Defensive Driving Course. PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 U.S. Professors of the Year awards, sponsored by CASE and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The program is open to educators at 2– and 4-year institutions in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. WIZARD OF OZ LUNCHEON. The WVU at Parkersburg Foundation invites you to: "Building the Yellow Brick Road: A Wizard of Oz Luncheon" on Saturday, March 24 from 11 am - 2:30 pm. Enjoy a picnic-style lunch, children's activities, short theatrical production and gift bags for children. All proceeds support the new Childhood Development Center. HISTORY HERO. Bob Cordell, retired professor of social sciences, will be honored for being chosen 2012 WV History Hero on Saturday, March 3, from 2 - 4 pm at the Vienna Public Library. library information session. The library will hold information sessions on the Foundation Center Online database. Foundation Center Online allows users to search for grants for organizations and individuals. The sessions are on Wednesday 7 March at 7PM and Friday 9 March at 1PM. SYMPATHY NOTE. Former employee Kendall L. Hall died at home Feb. 2. Kendall was Associate Professor Emeritus of engineering. The campus community extends sympathy to his family.

NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULEMAKING. At its meeting on February 8, 2012,  the WVU Parkersburg Board of Governors approved a proposed amendment to its existing  Sabbatical Leave Policy, B-29, and hereby issues notice of a 30-day public comment period in accordance with its rulemaking policy. This revision serves only to clarify that application for sabbatical leave is intended for tenured faculty because of the expectation for continuing service as provided in W.Va. Code § 18B-8-3. This clarification was unnecessary when the policy language originated because today’s categories of non-tenured faculty were nonexistent. (Opportunities for professional development of non-tenured faculty remain available during the terms of their appointments. This policy revision may be accessed under Proposed Policies or in the Office of the President. SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER.
Staff Council is selling tickets for free Wendy's Frosty's to raise for money for its scholarship funds. Tickets are $2 each and are available from Drema Starkey (ext. 310) and Patsy Bee (ext. 200). Proceeds benefit the Classified Staff Scholarship Fund, Children of Classified Staff Scholarship Fund and the Memory Garden Fund, which provides funds to support the purchase of bricks in honor of our retirees and helps provide scholarships for our students.

QUEBEC 2012. The Higher Education Policy Commission is again sponsoring an eight-day study abroad opportunity at Laval University in Quebec City. Students from West Virginia colleges will travel together on a bus, stay in Laval residence halls and experience one of the oldest cities in North America. The $650 cost includes most expenses.
