  • Reminder: Open Enrollment for  Benefits is April 1-30.  Benefits-eligible WVU Parkersburg faculty and staff have the opportunity to enroll, re-enroll, change, cancel or add to the following benefit plans only during Open Enrollment, April 1-30:  Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) -  Health Insurance Plan, and Fringe Benefits Management Company (FBMC) - Mountaineer Flexible Benefits Plan (dental insurance, vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, disability insurance, and legal plan).  Employees may make changes on-line or via a paper form.  Visit the WVU Human Resources website or contact WVU Benefits Administration at 304.293.5700x4.  (Submitted by Peggy Jameson 4/20/10)
  • Sympathy Note.  Former college nurse Mary Jane Ball died April 17 in Charleston. She was 83.  MORE
  • FBI Special Agent on CyberCrime.  FBI Special Agent Evan Patterson of the CyberCrime unit will address WVU Parkersburg students Monday, April 26th at 11 a.m. in the Caperton Center auditorium.  He will speak about job opportunities with the FBI, how the FBI fights internet crime in West Virginia as well as internet threats we all face.   • Art Sale.  The Art Department is sponsoring a ceramic/bake sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday (April 21) in front of the library.  (Submitted by Zack Orcutt 4/19/10)
  • Insights on the Jain Religion.  Faculty, staff and students are invited to hear Parul Shah’s insights on the Jain religion on Wednesday, April 21.  Her presentation, sponsored by the Social Justice Committee, will be given at 11:00 a.m. in the college theatre.  (Submitted by Debbie Richards 4/19/10)
  • "Walking Happy" Rescheduled.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Music and Theatre departments' production of "Walking Happy" scheduled for April 16-17 has been postponed to May 21-22.  (Submitted 4/14/10)
  • Fork Truck Training.  WVU at Parkersburg will conduct Fork Truck operator training on May 7 from  9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at  the Workforce & Community Education Building.  Cost is $55 per person and includes testing (written and hands-on), inspection checklists, individual certificate and paperwork for company records upon successful completion.  For further info, contact Tom Lemon at 304-424-8276.  (Submitted by Tom Lemon 4/7/10)
  • "Battle of the Year" ... "The Game" ... Players Wanted.  Any available and willing faculty and staff are invited to join in on Monday, April 19 at 11:45 a.m. to play volleyball against the WVU Parkersburg volleyball team.  Please contact Phil McClung if you are willing to play.  No volleyball skill necessary; good sense of humor required.  Also, the WVU Parkersburg basketball team is playing the WVU Parkersburg volleyball team at 11 a.m. on the same day in the multipurpose room.   No admission charge.  So far, I have non-binding, verbal commitments from Al Collins, Amy Dennis, Alice Ondrusek, Michelle Bissell, Tom Yencha, Louis Roy, Jeanne Catalano, Tom Yencha, and Dennis Bell.  -- Phil  (Submitted by Phil McClung 4/7/10)
  • LOOP Presentation.  Lifeline of Ohio Organ Procurement (LOOP) will be on campus Monday (April 19), in the aerobics room during engagement time at 11 a.m. There will be a representative from LOOP and a local organ recipient to speak and answer any questions.   • PEIA Blood Screenings PEIA will hold its annual blood screening Monday, April 19th from 7:00 -10:00 a.m. in the aerobic room.  In the future, health programs available through PEIA will only be available to those participating in this screening. The insurance company is placing more importance on this screening and results could become a deciding factor in the price of your premiums.  Also, don’t forget Know Your Score: if your blood work is in the good range you receive $50, medium range you receive $25.  Don’t miss this opportunity to receive a free health screening and a little bit of spending money.  For an appointment or information, contact Pamela Santer at ext. 205.  (Submitted by Pamela Santer 4/10/10)
  • Catalog Changes.  All non-academic changes for the 2010-2011 College Catalog should be submitted to Connie Dziagwa by April 30.  Academic revisions/updates will be coordinated by the Academic Council.  (Submitted 4/6/10)
  • Summer Deferred Payment Program.  The Summer Deferred Payment Program is now available for employees who wish to sign-up or make changes to their current program deductions.   • Foundation Retirement.  Jenny Keup, Executive Director of the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation, has announced her retirement, effective May 7th. She will continue to work with the Foundation as needed after that date until a new Director is in place.  (Submitted by Jenny Keup 4/1/10)
  • Interactive Science.  Students in Jane King's SCI 301 Instructional Strategies in Science course will have science stations set up from 11 a.m. to Noon, April 7, in the Community Room for school-age students to interact with as a hands-on learning activity.  Several area Boy Scouts' troops will be attending to take part in the interactive science stations.  School-aged children of faculty and staff are invited to participate as well.   (Submitted by Jane King 4/1/10)
  • Transitions.  Christopher Clifford, Interim Chief Financial Officer for WVU Parkersburg, has  been named Associate Vice President for Business Services at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  He will continue to serve WVU Parkersburg until April 6, 2010.   (Submitted 4/2/10)
  • Sympathy Note.  Jack Burlingame, former executive director of the Jackson County Development Authority, died March 29 in Ravenswood.  He was instrumental in the evolving development of the Jackson County Center.  WVU Parkersburg awarded him an honorary degree in 2003.  MORE  (Submitted 4/1/10)
